The Basso, Beattie, and Bresnahan test59 was used to assess locomotor activity after SCI. The BBB scale ranges from 0–21 and reflects the extent of hindlimb joint movement, weight support, toe clearance, paw placement and forelimb-hindlimb coordination. Each hindlimb is scored separately and then averaged for the analysis. The test was performed weekly from the first week after the injury.
