Rats were anaesthetized (i.p.) with pentobarbital (45 mg/kg body weight) and placed on a thermostat to maintain a body temperature of 37°C during surgery. In each rat, the kidneys were first exposed through a midline abdominal incision. Then, the right kidney was resected. Subsequently, the left renal pedicle was clamped for 45 min using non-invasive vascular forceps and then the clamp was removed for 24 h to allow reperfusion.
