We extracted total genomic DNA from about 50–100 mg of silica gel dried leaf/flower tissue. Each sample was placed in 2 ml Eppendorf® tube with three glass beads (7 mm) and sterile sand. The tubes were frozen in liquid nitrogen for about 1–2 minutes and powdered in a Retsch MM 300 shaker for 3 minutes. We followed the 2 × CTAB (Hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide) protocol for isolating DNA44. DNA was quantified with a Qubit 3.0 Fluorometer (TermoFischer Scientific®).
