Under isoflurane anesthesia, apolyethylene (PE-10) catheter was inserted through the foramen magnum and advanced 8 cm caudally to the intumescentia lumbalis, as previously described.24 Rats that appeared to have hind limb paralysis or paresis after surgery were excluded from this study. Intrathecal injections were performed four to five days after catheter implantation. We administered KB-R7943 (Tocris, UK), which was dissolved in 1% dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). The KB-R7943 was intrathecally injected in a 10 µL volume, followed by a 10 µL saline flush to assure drug delivery to the subarachnoid space. The control group received 1% DMSO.
