For all experiments represented in Figs. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, samples were repeatedly expressed in aliquots from the same batch of LTE lysate. Repeats were carried out on different days and within different samples of the expression lysates. The extent of variation found was reported in the standard deviations. P values were obtained following ANOVA using the Holm-Sidak multiple comparison test. As the values represent the size of the oligomers and the impact of domains and mutations, this was appropriate to assess the significance of these values when compared.
