Liposome-encapsulation efficiency was measured by determining the amount of entrapped drugs. Briefly, the drug-loaded liposome sample was centrifuged in an amicon ultra centrifugal filter with a cut off size of 3 kD in order to separate the unentrapped drug. Total (Tdrug) and unentrapped drug (UEdrug) amounts were determined by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) measurements and comparing with corresponding standard curves. The encapsulated drug (Edrug) amount was calculated by subtracting the amount of unentrapped drugs (UEdrug) from total drug (Tdrug) amount. The drug encapsulation efficiency (EE) was expressed as the percentage of the encapsulated amount (Edrug) to the total amount (Tdrug). The drug loading efficiency (DLE) was calculated as the percentage of the encapsulated amount (Edrug) to the total lipid amount (Tlipid).
