The standard pleural injuries were created with either a 16g, 19g, 21g, 25g or 30g needle (Becton Dickinson, Mountain View, CA, USA), with an outer diameter of 1.651mm, 1.067mm, 0.8192, 0.5144mm, and 0.3112mm, respectively. The needle was used to penetrate the mounted pleural membrane.
