In 2015, about 1000 F2 plants and 20 plants from each parental line were subjected to high-resolution mapping of XA42. In 2016, 2950 F2 plants and 30 plants from each parental line were subjected to high-resolution mapping in the same manner as 2015. In addition to F2 plants, 17 F3 lines (30 plants per line with some exceptional cases) from recombinants obtained in 2015 were subjected to the progeny test for the genotype of XA42 locus. Xoo race IIA (strain T7147) was inoculated at the booting stage. Some F3 lines were also inoculated with the other five Xoo races for resistance against multiple races (see below). The LL of one representative leaf from each plant was measured after careful visual observation.
