Amino acid sequences of previously identified serpins from M. sexta (serpins 1–7, 9, and 13) and B. mori (serpins 1–34) (Zou et al., 2009) were used as queries to search the M. sexta genome assembly 1.0 (http://agripestbase.org/manduca/) using the TBLASTN algorithm with default settings. Amino acid sequences of the newly identified serpins were downloaded from ManducaBase and improved by comparing with Manduca RNA-seq Oases and Trinity Assemblies 3.0 (Cao and Jiang, 2015). The corresponding serpin genes were corrected and annotated using WebApollo as part of the development of M. sexta Official Gene Set 2.0 (Kanost et al., 2016).
