Lipolysis was measured as glycerol release as described previously [18,19]. Briefly, differentiated adipocytes were incubated in KRB with 0.5 mM oleate and 150 μM BSA with or without the test solutions for 4 hours. Forskolin (5 μM) was used as a positive control. Aliquots were removed and the glycerol content was measured using an NADH-linked assay as previously described [19]. Experiments were run for 4 hours due to the low sensitivity of the glycerol assay we used (as shown in our comparison of 1 and 4 hour incubation times in S1 Fig).
