The extent of protein oxidation was assessed by measuring the amount of protein carbonyl groups, which was determined spectrophotometrically according to the 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine (DNPH)-labeling procedure (Shin et al., 2014) as described by Oliver et al. (1987).
