Mechanical allodynia was assessed by examining the paw withdrawal mechanical threshold (PWMT) in response to a calibrated series of Von Frey hairs (29). Each filament was applied five times, each application lasted for 2 sec, and there was a 30-sec interval between each application. A positive response to a filament was indicated by the withdrawal of a hind paw upon application of a particular hair for at least 3 out of 5 consecutive applications. The PWT was defined as the smallest value of the hair force in grams that elicited positive responses.
