Genetic experiments were performed in E. coli strains W3110 ΔsecB::Cm^R (21) and MC4100 Δtig::Cm^R ΔdnaKdnaJ::Kan^R (31). Bacteria were grown in LB or M9 medium supplemented with ampicillin (100 or 50 μg/mL when specified), chloramphenicol (15 μg/mL), or kanamycin (40 μg/mL) when necessary.
