Cell proliferation was assessed by colorimetric BrdU cell proliferation assay according to manufacturer’s instructions (BioVision; Milpitas, CA). From each of the four pMMC types, 5000 cells per well were dispensed into a 96-well plate with pMMC medium and allowed to adhere for 16 hr. Cells were treated with fresh pMMC medium supplemented with 10 µM BrdU for 1 hr. This BrdU ELISA was performed in technical triplicates for three times always with pMMCs originating from a new passage.
