Blood was collected by cardiac puncture. After clotting and centrifugation, serum was isolated and serum levels of total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c) and triglycerides were measured by use of the blood biochemical analyzer Spotchem EZ SP 4430 (ARKRAY, Inc., Kyoto, Japan).
