In vivo Hair regrowth assay

Balb-c mice were anesthetized with metered isoflurane. Backs of all mice were shaved with a 0.25 mm clipper blade on a Proclip AGC2 Detachable Blade Clipper (Andis, Sturtevant, WI). In order to depilate hair follicles and stimulate hair regrowth, the shaved area was covered with Nair (Church & Dwight, Ewing, NJ) for ~1 minute and then removed and cleaned with a wet cloth. Any remaining residue was cleaned from the area and surrounding hairs to prevent irritation. First does of ATO or PBS was injected after hair removal and then subsequently dosed at ATO 6.5 mg/kg IP twice per day or equal volume of control PBS for 35 days.
