Chl-ωOAHFAs were transesterified using an acid catalyst (20). Briefly, F-2 was dissolved in chloroform:methanol (2:3, by volume) in a small glass ampoule. After adding acetyl chloride, the ampoule was sealed and heated at 70°C for 60 min. The reaction mixture was neutralized with silver carbonate and the organic layer was used for further analyses.
