Hemolysis was measured in plasma via absorbance to estimate the hemoglobin levels. Absorbance was measured at multiple wavelengths (380, 415, 450) and hemoglobin calculated in g/L based on this formula: (167.2 * A415 – 83.6 * A380 – 83.6 * A450) * 0.001 (62). Plasma samples with hemoglobin levels above 30 mg/dL were excluded from analyses.
