We measured participants’ ability to recover from work with the validated NFR Scale(8) which was earlier translated from English into Finnish and then back translated into English for wording confirmation(25). The scale measures the short-term adverse effect of work-day stressors and workers’ ability to recuperate from work during their free time. The NFR Scale consists of eleven items, for example, ‘I find it difficult to relax at the end of a working day’. Participants rated the items on four-point scales (1 = never, 2 = sometimes, 3 = often, 4 = always), and like in the original study(8), scores were transformed into a score ranging from 0 to 100 to allow comparison with other studies. A higher NFR score indicates worse recovery from work.
