The refreshing time analyses were performed using numerical simulations (COMSOL). Three-dimensional models of different microfluidic designs with same dimensions of the actual device were created in Rhinoceros and imported into COMSOL Multiphysics. The mass transport process was simulated by numerically solving the Stokes equation for an incompressible flow coupled with convection-diffusion equation (see Supplementary Note 3).
