From June 2011 to February 2012, we conducted a real-life, prospective, observational study aimed to examine the efficacy of three different medical treatment protocols in patients with AECR without polyps. The study was conducted at 16 clinical centres across the Russian Federation. The study protocol was approved by the Inter-institutional Ethics Committee of the Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University. All the patients signed written informed consent before entering the study. A total of 327 patients aged 18 to 60 years and diagnosed with acute exacerbation of CRSsNP of moderate severity were enrolled. According to EP3OS 2012 criteria 7, a diagnosis of CRS was supported by clinical history, nasal endoscopy and computed tomography (CT) or plain X-rays of the paranasal sinuses.
