In the Netherlands, a ‘standard’ general practice covers 2300 patients per GP. The Dutch guideline for general practice on asthma states that medical review should be performed at least once a year.20 This guideline is in concordance with the current international guidelines.1 In the Netherlands, all persons are required to have a healthcare insurance package, which covers primary care. During 2010, ∼90% of the Dutch households had internet access and ∼80% had access to high speed internet.21 Our participant group was selected within the Leiden—the Hague region, which is located in South Holland, a province in the Netherlands with a high population density, containing urban and rural settings.
