Twenty-one right-handed students (13 males and 8 females; mean age = 22.29 years, SD = 2.12, range = 18–27 years) from the University of Liège took part in this study. All participants were highly familiar with the university campus where the pre-scan walk took place. None of them reported a current use of psychoactive medication or a history of a neurological or psychiatric disorder. Five additional participants were tested but were excluded from the analyses because of noncompliance with the task, either during the pre-scan walk (one participant) or in the scanner (four participants). A formal power analysis was not performed because we did not find any prior study that involved a similar analysis as our main analysis of interest (i.e., examining autocorrelations between patterns of brain activity across time). Thus, our sample size was selected to be comparable to previous studies investigating memory for dynamic stimuli.28 All participants gave their written informed consent to take part in the study, which was approved by the ethics committee of the Medical School of the University of Liège and was performed in accordance with the ethical standards described in the Declaration of Helsinki (1964).
