Caenorhabditis elegans were cultured as originally described (Brenner 1974), except that worms were grown on MYOB media instead of NGM. MYOB agar was made as previously described (Church et al. 1995). Brood sizes were performed picking L4 larvae to individual wells of a 6-well plate seeded with OP50 and incubating the plate at 20°C. Animals were transferred to new plates daily over 4 days. Two days post-transfer, the number of hatched progeny and unfertilized eggs were scored. We scored unfertilized eggs over the first 3 days as on the fourth day animals frequently ran out of sperm.
