The databases were PubMed, Web of Science, SPONET, SPORTDiscus, SURF, BASE, Scopus, ScienceDirect, JSTOR, ProQuest, and Darwin Correspondence Project. The terms used for the systematic search were (intersex* AND sport*). No limitations were used during searches within all databases except for the time frame. Additionally, a manual search was conducted on Google Scholar.
