Blood was drawn from study participants into ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) tubes and processed by centrifugation at 2000× g for 10 min at 4 °C, followed by extraction of the upper plasma layer and storage at −80 °C until use. The plasma ergothioneine concentration was measured using a high sensitivity and specificity liquid chromatography tandem-mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS) method as previously described [11,37]. The analytical procedures were performed by investigators blinded to all demographic, clinical, and neuroimaging data.
