BALB/c-nude mice (6–8 week old) were purchased from the Nanfang Hospital and maintained under pathogen-free conditions. The animal use protocol was approved by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee in Nanfang Hospital. 22RV1 cells (3 × 106) suspended in 150 μl medium were gently mixed with 150 μl of Matrigel (Corning) and then inoculated subcutaneously in the right flank region of each mouse. Castration was performed for the mice with a tumor volume of about 300 mm3 (n = 10), and treatment was initiated 4 days later. Tumor-bearing BALB/c-nude mice were randomly assigned into two groups and treated with ivermectin (10 mg/kg, three times per week) or vehicle (DMSO:EtOH:Kalliphor/PBS 1:1:8/10) without blinding. Tumor volume measurements were performed per 3 days and calculated by the formula length × width × depth × 0.52.
