The prostate was over-stimulated in a BPH rat model via subcutaneous injection of testosterone propionate in corn oil (10 mg/kg/day) for 8 weeks after castration via aseptic excision of both the testes (46). For 7 days after castration, the rats were kept in a controlled environment to ensure complete involution of the prostatic gland.
