Based on data reported by Soto-Cabezas et al. in a similar Peruvian study (14), an expected prevalence of 60%, a 95% confidence interval (95% CI), and a design effect 1, we calculated a sample size of 298 participants using EPIDAT 4.2 (27). Initially, we intended to conduct a stratified random sampling considering the total number of hospital workers (approximately 1,800) stratified stratified into seven occupational groups: (1) physicians, (2) nurses, (3) technicians, (4) pharmacists, (5) other HCWs (obstetricians, nutritionists, psychologists, medical technologists, and biologists), (6) administrative support staff (secretaries, administrators, statisticians, and engineers), and (7) housekeeping personnel (cleaning, laundry, and disinfection staff).
