We conducted negative geotaxis assay as before (Ali et al., 2011; Villanueva et al., 2019). Briefly, flies were transferred into clean vials (about 10 per vial) and briefly allowed to acclimate. The vial was sharply tapped onto a pad to stimulate negative geotaxis response, and the proportion of flies the climbed to a 7 cm mark within 10 s was recorded by video for analysis. This was repeated a total of four times for each vial of flies, and the average of the four runs was calculated.
