ZnCl2 (0.1 M solution buffered at pH 7.4), poly-D-lysine (PDL), and chemicals for buffers were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich (St. Louis, MO), and culture medium, serum, antibiotics and trypsin for cell culture was obtained from Invitrogen (Paisley, UK). Defolliculated stage V-VI oocytes harvested from female Xenopus laevis frogs were obtained from an in-house facility.
