TheraCyte devices (20 μL) were purchased from TheraCyte, Inc., Laguna Hills, California. OxySite devices were prepared at O2M using the active and control disks (5 mm diameter × 1 mm thick PDMS disks with and without CaO2) provided by Dr. Cherie Stabler (University of Florida) according to the published protocol25,32. The iBED and SONIC devices were provided by Dr. Minglin Ma, Cornell University, New York34,38. Dr. Corinne Hoesli, McGill University, Canada, provided the single-channel macro-encapsulation device65,66.
