Electron microscopic sample handling and detection were performed by the Electron Microscopic Central Laboratory of Southeast University Medical school as previously described (39). Kidney tissue samples were fixed in 2.5% glutaraldehyde in 0.1 mol/L phosphate buffer and processed for routine electron microscopy.
