Total phenolic compounds were determined using the Folin–Ciocalteu method from the extraction with water:acetone [21], made by adding 50 µL of the extract, 200 µL folin–ciocalteu reagent, 500 µL Na2CO3, and 5 mL distilled water to a test tube. The mixture was vortexed for 30 s and placed in a water bath at 45 °C for 30 min. The absorbance of the mixture was read at a 750 nm wavelength. The results were expressed in mg of gallic acid equivalents per gram of dry tissue (mg GAE g−1 DW).
