We included 20 healthy volunteers from Denmark to calculate normal plasma metabolic variance to incorporate metabolic patient data into EC-GEM [12]. This was approved by the Regional Ethics Committee (H-4-2009-139) and the Danish Data Protection Agency and was in line with the Declaration of Helsinki.
