This study was approved by the Ethical Committee for Veterinary Clinical and Zootechnical Studies of the Department of Emergency and Organ Transplantation (D.E.O.T.) at the University of Bari, Italy (certificate of approval number: 02/2021). Informed consent was obtained from all the owners of the dogs before they were included in the study. This study followed the Consolidated Standards of Reporting Studies Statement 2010 for presenting randomized clinical trials (18).
