After phase-contrast CT scans, the livers were dehydrated and embedded in paraffin. Sections with a slice thickness of 4 μm were stained with hematoxylin and eosin (H&E). Pathological images were digitized via a dedicated camera. Coregistration of the phase-contrast CT images and the corresponding histopathologic findings was manually performed to confirm the accuracy of the phase-contrast CT technique (Fig. 1).
