Spathaspora passalidarum CMUWF1−2 isolated from soil in Mae Taeng district, Chiang Mai province, Thailand [6] was used in this study. This yeast strain was cultured on yeast extract-peptone-dextrose (YPD) agar (10 g/l yeast extract, 20 g/l peptone, 20 g/l dextrose, and 15 g/l agar) and incubated at 30 °C for 2 days. A single colony from the agar plate was transferred into YPD broth (10 g/l yeast extract, 20 g/l peptone, and 20 g/l dextrose) for subsequent experiments. All yeast strains in this study were kept in YPD broth with 25% (v/v) glycerol at -20 °C for long-term storage.
