Cell growth was monitored by measuring the A600nm using an Uvmini-1280 spectrometer. The extracellular and intracellular ectoine levels was quantified by HPLC (Agilent 1100) using an Thermo Scientific Hypersil GOLD aQ C18 column with an acetonitrile/water mixture (2:98 v/v) as the mobile phase (flow rate 0.6 mL/min). Ectoine was detected by a UV detector at a wavelength of 210 nm [47].
