The anti-HSV-1 effect of SRI was scrutinized using the cytopathic effect (CPE) inhibition assay (Wang et al., 2011; Chu et al., 2020). Briefly, Vero cell monolayers placed in 96-well plates were infected with HSV-1 (MOI = 1) for 2 h, incubated with serial concentrations of SRI (0.05, 0.1, 0.2, and 0.4 mg/mL) after removal of the viral inoculum, and the cytopathic effects of SRI were observed and photographed after 72 h.
