Symptoms of apathy were evaluated based on the Apathy Evaluation Scale (AES, German version; (25). This questionnaire is valid and reliable in PD patients (26). It consists of 18 items, which are evaluated on a four-point Likert scale, ranging from 0 to 3 with increasing severity (e.g., not at all; a little; moderate; and many). The total score can range from 0 to 54. More than 38 points indicate the presence of clinically relevant apathy symptoms.
