For each recording, the two elements were added together to form the final null distribution, χa,b:

where Var(ϕa,b) represents the sample variance of ϕa,b, ϕa,b¯=1HhHϕh,a,b, and ρa,b¯=1LvLρv,a,b. The ρ distribution in question depends on the standardised length of the analysed recording. This is because in practice there were 3 different versions of ρa,b: one for each standard MC signal length (350, 400, 500 s).

The test statistic Ta,b is then obtained by standardizing ra,b by the mean and standard deviation of the final normal null distribution χa,b,
