In this case we considered a linear elastic isotropic material model (Eskandari and Kuhl, 2015) with Young’s modulus E and Poisson’s ratio υ . The regional heterogeneity of this model meant each element of the mesh had its own two parameters that were found by the optimization algorithm. The shear modulus μ of each element was then calculated using μ=E2(1+ν) and regionally mapped onto the lung surface.
