The complete name for hSURF1opt is self-complementary CBh codon-optimized human SURF1-BGHpA. It is composed of a CBh promoter, a codon-optimized human SURF1 cDNA sequence (ATUM, Newark, CA, USA), and a BGH poly(A) tail. This construct with a GFP reporter in place of hSURF1opt has been described in multiple publications from our group across different animal models.12,14,16,22,30 The 5′ ITR was mutated to form the self-complementary structure as previously described.31
