Midwives were selected across all models of care (including standard public / private hospital care, midwifery group practice, publicly funded homebirth, and privately practising midwives), years of experience, and states and territories across Australia. To achieve this, participants were selected according to the maximum variation method as a form of purposive sampling [22].
