Methyl-β-cyclodextrin (MβCD) (Sigma-Aldrich, St. Louis, MO) was used to disrupt lipid rafts. For this, cells were serum starved for 24 h and treated with 1, 5, and 10 mM MβCD in serum-free growth medium for 1 h at 37°C. Afterwards, cells were washed twice with PBS to completely remove the compound, followed by infection or stimulation with EGF.
