The interviews were analyzed by DR and JL using the method of constant comparison33 to identify cross-cutting themes. Both researchers read interviews repeatedly before undertaking preliminary analyses and writing separate reports. Regular meetings were held to compare interpretations and reach agreement on a coding framework, which captured key themes. Coded datasets were subjected to further analyses to allow more nuanced interpretations of the data and identify illustrative quotations.
