The interviews were analyzed by DR and JL using the method of constant comparison33 to identify cross-cutting themes. Both researchers read interviews repeatedly before undertaking preliminary analyses and writing separate reports. Regular meetings were held to compare interpretations and reach agreement on a coding framework, which captured key themes. A qualitative data-indexing package, Nvivo11 (QSR International, Doncaster, Australia), was used to facilitate data coding and retrieval. Coded datasets were subjected to further analyses to allow more nuanced interpretations of the data and identify illustrative quotations.
