As a pilot study, five female mice were selected for induction of experimental chronic toxoplasmosis. To do that, each mouse was intraperitoneally infected with 200 μL of normal saline, containing 10 Toxoplasma cysts. After 2 months, the mice were sacrificed. The experimental chronic toxoplasmosis and cyst formation were confirmed, by positive modified agglutination test (MAT) on the mouse sera as well as the detection of parasites in the mouse brain and eye by pathological and molecular (PCR) approaches.
