The EPDS is a commonly used modality for assessing depressive symptomatology during pregnancy and up to a year postpartum. The EPDS comprises of 10 items, each with a four-point Likert scale from zero to three, and a total score ranging from 0–30. EPDS was analyzed as a categorical variable (high EPDS: EPDS ≥ 10 versus low EPDS: EPDS < 10), with the threshold selected based on the results of a systematic review19.
