Thioflavin-S was used to stain the amyloid plaques in brain sections. The 30-μm free-floating brain sections were incubated in 0.25% KMnO4 solution for 10 min, washed in distilled water, and incubated in 1% K2S2O5 plus 1% oxalic acid solution for 2 min. After rinsing with distilled water, sections were incubated in 0.02% Thioflavin-S solution for 8 min. Then the sections were washed with 50% ethanol twice and placed in distilled water. Finally, slides were coverslipped with PermountTM.
